‘What is wrong with Soviet Agriculture? “Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter”‘
‘Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born.’
”I have wondered at times what The Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through Congress.’
The most terrifying words in the English language are “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
‘How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.’
‘Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidise it.’
Sorry, I must make a correction, it was Christopher Hitchens, not Peter.
It is well to remember that Ronald Reagan was an actor, and quite a good one. While he did not make it to the top tier of Hollywood he got close. You would expect such a man to have the ability to project the sunny personae that the people like to believe in. Under that mask though was a different character altogether; mean, ruthlessly ambitious and very unscrupulous. The late Peter Hitchens got under Reagan’s skin at a press conference (Hitchens was very good at this) the reaction was a sight, Reagan turned into a vicious, vituperative lizard and was hustled away by his handlers.
To Darren’s point; he clearly did not attend any Trump rallies, if he had he would have seen a very patriotic crowd, sure of what they are and even surer of what they do not wish to become. Trump has changed history, we know from her own mouth that Hillary Clinton would have amnestied all the illegals already here and welcomed hundreds of millions more from the failing societies of South and Central America. Hopefully, and I do not believe that this is unreasonable, Trump will have stirred the political pot enough that a younger and equally unashamedly American patriot will arise to carry on his legacy and preserve the essential Anglo/European nature of the USA.
It certainly is remarkable to see the difference between a President like Reagan and one like Obama. A President now is not permitted to tell jokes…well, certainly not about their country’s enemies for fear of offending them or their acolytes.
It highlights what I’ve believed for a long time, which is that the United States has completely lost confidence in itself and has largely been destroyed from within. Patriotism has become a dirty word. This loss of self-confidence is most evident in its style of politics and political discourse, as well as the kind of content produced by Hollywood and the big TV studios.
This internal crisis has seeped into the culture and national psyche, and further into the entire Western world as other countries, rightly or wrongly, have Americanized themselves and absorbed the dominant culture.
